Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,

   Today we celebrate the Baptism of the Lord, and we are also invited to remember our own Baptism.

   Today is also the final day of the Christmas season. The Christmas season concludes after the last Mass today, and tomorrow we begin Ordinary Time.

   The Word of God draws us to the banks of the Jordan River, where our Lord Jesus Christ, the beloved Son of the Father, humbly approaches John to be baptized. In this simple and profound act, He who is without sin aligns Himself with sinners, showing us, that God’s way is not one of privilege or power, but of trusting obedience and solidarity with humanity. In His baptism, the heart of Christ’s mission is revealed: to fulfill the will of the Father and to enter fully into our human story.

   As Jesus emerges from the waters, the heavens open, the Holy Spirit descends upon Him, and the Father’s voice proclaims His love: “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.” In this event, the mystery of the Holy Trinity is revealed, and the public ministry of Jesus begins—marked by love that gives itself in service and devotion. Everything flows from His intimate relationship with the Father and the action of the Holy Spirit in His life.

   This sacred moment also invites us to reflect on our own Baptism. Through it, we have been called children of God, incorporated into Christ, and anointed by the Holy Spirit. Just as the Holy Spirit descended upon Jesus, may we pray that the Holy Spirit dwells in our families, strengthens them in times of difficulty, and guides us to walk together in faith, hope, and charity.

If you do not remember, please consult your baptism certificate.        Dear faithful, let the celebration of the Baptism of the Lord renew our faith, deepen our gratitude for the gift of our own Baptism, and inspire us to live our Christian vocation with joy, humility, and love. May our lives bear witness to the transforming power of God’s grace, as we follow Christ in His mission of service and reconciliation.

Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:

   Hoy celebramos el Bautismo del Señor, y también estamos invitados a recordar nuestro propio Bautismo.

   Hoy es además el último día del tiempo de Navidad. La temporada navideña concluye después de la última Misa de hoy, y mañana comenzamos el Tiempo Ordinario.

   La Palabra de Dios nos lleva a las orillas del río Jordán, donde nuestro Señor Jesucristo, el Hijo amado del Padre, se acerca humildemente a Juan para ser bautizado. En este acto sencillo y profundo, Aquel que no tiene pecado se coloca en la fila de los pecadores, mostrándonos que el camino de Dios no es de privilegio ni de poder, sino de obediencia confiada y solidaridad con la humanidad. En su bautismo, se revela el corazón de la misión de Cristo: cumplir la voluntad del Padre y entrar plenamente en nuestra historia humana.

  Al salir Jesús de las aguas, los cielos se abren, el Espíritu Santo desciende sobre Él y la voz del Padre proclama su amor: “Éste es mi Hijo muy amado, en quien tengo mis complacencias”. En este acontecimiento, se revela el misterio de la Santísima Trinidad y comienza el ministerio público de Jesús, marcado por un amor que se entrega en servicio y devoción. Todo nace de su profunda relación con el Padre y de la acción del Espíritu Santo en su vida.

   Este momento sagrado nos invita también a reflexionar sobre nuestro propio Bautismo. A través de él, hemos sido llamados hijos de Dios, incorporados a Cristo y ungidos por el Espíritu Santo. Así como el Espíritu Santo descendió sobre Jesús, oremos para que el Espíritu Santo habite en nuestras familias, las fortalezca en los momentos de dificultad y nos guíe para caminar juntos en la fe, la esperanza y la caridad.

   ¿Recuerda usted la fecha de su bautismo, quién lo bautizó y dónde tuvo lugar su bautismo? Si usted no lo recuerda, lo ánimo a que consulte su certificado de bautismo.

   Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo, que la celebración del Bautismo del Señor renueve nuestra fe, profundice nuestra gratitud por el don de nuestro propio Bautismo y nos inspire a vivir nuestra vocación cristiana con alegría, humildad y amor. Que nuestras vidas den testimonio del poder transformador de la gracia de Dios, mientras seguimos a Cristo en su misión de servicio y reconciliación.
