SHORT REFLECTION . . . ALL SAINTS’ DAY CELEBRATION

   Biblically speaking, where does the bible refer to intercession by the saints?: (Earthly Siblings): Rom. 15:30; Eph. 6:18; James 5:16; Heb. 13:18-19; 1 Tim. 2:1-8; (Celestial Siblings): Mt. 22:32; Mk. 12:18-27; Lk. 20:38; Rev. 5:8; 8:3; Heb. 12:1-13.

   When we celebrate All Saints’ Day, it is important to remember the following:

  1) Saints are our older brothers/sisters (siblings in the Lord) who have laid down their lives for the sake of God and Christ! We do not communicate with them by having a seance or by conjuring up the dead. Therefore, we do not believe in necromancy! No, our holy siblings are alive in God (cf. Mk. 12:18-27)!!! They are not dead as many would believe!!! After all, if St. Paul asked those whom were alive to pray for him, how much more would those who see God face to face be able to intercede!!! If we do not believe that those who are deceased and have been marked with the sign of faith are not enjoying heavenly and ineffable bliss, we, ourselves, would not believe in the resurrection!!!!!

  2) Prayer for the Saints’ intercession does not detract from the glory of God; rather, it demonstrates His glory, because we are living faithfully as brothers/sisters in God.

  3) We are cheating ourselves if we do not feel affiliated with our holy siblings. We always look for heroes in our lives whom we can emulate. Therefore, why don’t we choose the saints?

  4) We bless those whom God has blessed; therefore, we bless the saints. As God told Abraham, “I will make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the communities of the earth shall find blessing in you” (Gen. 12:2-3). Thus, we must bless our holy siblings who have been blessed beyond our imagination.

  5) All saints are God’s prized-possessions! Just think! When one honors the works of Vango, Picasso or Michaelangelo, is he or she detracting from their personal glory? No! This type of honor can only glorify them!

  6) Other Christian denominations define a worship (latria) service as songs to, prayers to and a sermon about God. We have the same elements present in our Masses; however, we incorporate sacrifice (cf. Heb. 10:10-23; Rom. 12:1-2) into the worship of God, because that is the main element which distinguishes worship from devotion (dulia). We hold in high regard the saints (dulia) and the Blessed Mother (hyperdulia), but we worship God, and God alone! (dulia – devotion; hyperdulia – elevated devotion; latria – worship).

ALL SOULS’ DAY - The Catholic Church teaches that Purgatory is a final purification for those who die in the grace and friendship of God, but who still need to be purified before entering the joy of heaven (CCC 1030–1031). This teaching is supported by biblical passages such as 1 Corinthians 3:15, Matthew 12:32, and Revelation 21:27.

  The Church distinguishes between the particular judgment, which occurs after death, and the final judgment, which will take place when Christ returns. Catholic tradition also recognizes the value of prayers for the deceased, as mentioned in 2 Maccabees 12:43–45.

  On this All Souls' Day, let us remember our departed loved ones with love and pray for all the souls in Purgatory. Let us offer for them our most sublime prayer: the Holy Mass!

BREVE REFLEXIÓN… CELEBRACIÓN DEL DÍA DE TODOS LOS SANTOS Bíblicamente hablando, ¿Dónde se refiere la Biblia a la intercesión de los santos?: (Hermanos Terrenales): Rom. 15:30; Ef. 6:18; Stg. 5:16; Heb. 13:18-19; 1 Tim. 2:1-8; (Hermanos Celestiales): Mt. 22:32; Mc. 12:18-27; Lc. 20:38; Ap. 5:8; 8:3; Heb. 12:1-13. Al celebrar el Día de Todos los Santos, es importante recordar lo siguiente:

  1) Los Santos son nuestros hermanos mayores (hermanos en el Señor) que dieron su vida por Dios y por Cristo. No nos comunicamos con ellos mediante sesiones de espiritismo ni invocando a los muertos. Por lo tanto, ¡No creemos en el espiritismo! ¡No, nuestros santos hermanos están vivos en Dios (cf. Mc 12,18-27)! ¡No están muertos, como muchos creen! Después de todo, si san Pablo pidió a los vivos que oraran por él, ¡Cuánto más podrán interceder quienes ven a Dios cara a cara! Si no creemos que los difuntos, marcados con el signo de la fe, gozan de una bienaventuranza celestial e inefable, ¡nosotros mismos no creeríamos en la resurrección!

   2) La oración pidiendo la intercesión de los santos no disminuye la gloria de Dios; al contrario, la manifiesta, porque vivimos fielmente como hermanos en Dios.

  3) Nos estamos engañando a nosotros mismos si no nos sentimos unidos a nuestros hermanos santos. Siempre buscamos héroes en nuestras vidas a quienes imitar. Por lo tanto, ¿Por qué no elegimos a los santos?

  4) Bendecimos a quienes Dios ha bendecido; por lo tanto, bendecimos a los santos. Como Dios le dijo a Abraham: «Engrandeceré tu nombre, y serás una bendición. Bendeciré a los que te bendigan y maldeciré a los que te maldigan. Todas las familias de la tierra serán benditas en ti» (Génesis 12:2-3). Así pues, debemos bendecir a nuestros hermanos santos, quienes han sido bendecidos más allá de nuestra imaginación.     5) ¡Todos los santos son tesoros preciados de Dios! ¡Piénsalo! Cuando uno rinde homenaje a las obras de Van Gogh, Picasso o Miguel Ángel, ¿Acaso está menoscabando su gloria personal? ¡No! ¡Este tipo de homenaje sólo puede engrandecerlas!

  6) Otras denominaciones cristianas definen un servicio de culto (latría) como cantos, oraciones y una homilía sobre Dios. En nuestras Misas también se encuentran estos elementos; sin embargo, incorporamos el sacrificio (cf. Heb. 10:10-23; Rom. 12:1-2) al culto a Dios, pues este es el elemento principal que distingue el culto de la devoción (dulía). Tenemos en alta estima a los santos (dulía) y a la Santísima Virgen (hiperdulía), pero adoramos a Dios, ¡y solo a Dios! (dulía: devoción; hiperdulía: devoción elevada; latría: culto).

 DÍA DE LOS FIELES DIFUNTOS

   La Iglesia Católica enseña que el Purgatorio es una purificación final para quienes mueren en la gracia y amistad de Dios, pero aún necesitan ser purificados antes de entrar en la alegría del cielo (CIC 1030-1031). Esta enseñanza se apoya en pasajes bíblicos como 1 Corintios 3:15, Mateo 12:32 y Apocalipsis 21:27.

   La Iglesia distingue entre el juicio particular, que ocurre después de la muerte, y el juicio final, cuando Cristo regrese. La tradición católica también reconoce el valor de las oraciones por los difuntos, como se menciona en 2 Macabeos 12:43-45.

  En este Día de los Fieles Difuntos, recordemos con amor a nuestros seres queridos fallecidos y oremos por todas las almas del Purgatorio. Ofrezcamos por ellas nuestra oración más sublime: ¡la Santa Misa!
