O Divine Mystery, O Sacred Trinity!

Surround us with Your wisdom, love, power, and grace.

Draw us to Yourself. Help us to rest in Your goodness.

Obedience, Explained!

Disobedience was humanity’s original sin. Conversely, obedience became the instrument of humanity’s reconciliation to God.

Scripture calls man’s submission of his own intellect and will to God, the author of revelation, “the obedience of faith.” (CCC 143) “To obey in faith is to submit freely to the word that has been heard, because its truth is guaranteed by God, who is Truth itself,” we read in the Catechism (CCC 144).

We see perfect obedience shown by Christ amidst his agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. His human will dreads what will come — “My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from me” — but his divine will, which is never at odds with his human will, submits to the Truth: “Yet, not as I will, but as you will.” (Matthew 26:39). Despite his fear, he embraces the divine will for man to be redeemed, and so we say that he was “obedient unto death.” (Philippians 2:8)

Rodéanos con tu sabiduría, amor, poder y gracia.

¡Obediencia, Explicada!

La desobediencia fue el pecado original de la humanidad. Por el contrario, la obediencia se convirtió en el instrumento de la reconciliación de la humanidad con Dios.

Las Escrituras llaman a la sumisión del hombre de su propio intelecto y voluntad a Dios, el autor de la revelación, "la obediencia de la fe." (CCC 143) "Obedecer en fe es someterse libremente a la palabra que ha sido escuchada, porque su verdad está garantizada por Dios, que es la verdad misma", leemos en el Catecismo (CIC 144).

Vemos una obediencia perfecta mostrada por Cristo en medio de su agonía en el Jardín de Getsemaní. Su voluntad humana teme lo que vendrá — "Padre, si es posible, aparte de mí este cáliz" — pero su voluntad divina, que nunca está en desacuerdo con su voluntad humana, se somete a la Verdad: "Sin embargo, no como yo quiera, sino como tú quieras." (Mateo 26:39). A pesar de su miedo, abraza la voluntad divina de que el hombre sea redimido, y por eso decimos que fue "obediente hasta la muerte." (Filipenses 2:8)
