Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

   In this Easter season, the Church invites us to deepen our encounter with the Risen Lord. The account of the disciples of Emmaus, taken from the Gospel of Luke, sheds a special light upon our journey of faith.

   Those disciples were making their way back, disheartened—like those who feel that all is lost. Yet, amidst their sorrow, Jesus Christ makes Himself present and walks alongside them. Although they do not recognize Him immediately, He never ceases to accompany them, to listen to their concerns, and to explain to them the meaning of the Scriptures.

   We, too, in our daily lives, may experience moments of confusion or discouragement. But this passage reminds us of a fundamental truth: the Risen Lord is alive and walks by our side, even when we do not clearly perceive Him.

   The hearts of the disciples begin to burn within them when they listen to the Word. And finally, their eyes are opened in the breaking of the bread. In these two moments—the Word and the Eucharist—the Church recognizes the privileged places for encountering Christ. Every Sunday, as we gather as a community, the Lord speaks to us and gives Himself to us as nourishment, renewing our faith and our hope.

   The Third Sunday of Easter, therefore, invites us to allow ourselves to be transformed by this encounter. It is not enough merely to listen; we must recognize, welcome, and respond. Once the disciples discover the Lord, they rise up and return without delay to proclaim Him.

   In the same way, we too are called to be witnesses of the Resurrection. Amidst a world that often lives without hope, our mission is to proclaim—through the way we live—that Christ is alive, that love has triumphed, and that a new life is possible.

   Let us ask the Lord to set our hearts ablaze with His Word, to open our eyes in the Eucharist, and to impel us to go forth to meet others with Easter joy. May we, like the disciples of Emmaus, be able to say with faith: “Stay with us, Lord.”

  Queridos hermanos y hermanas en Cristo:

   En este tiempo pascual, la Iglesia nos invita a profundizar en el encuentro con el Señor resucitado. El relato de los discípulos de Emaús, tomado del Evangelio de Lucas, ilumina de manera especial nuestro caminar de fe.

   Aquellos discípulos iban de regreso, desalentados, como quien siente que todo ha terminado. Sin embargo, en medio de su tristeza, Jesucristo se hace presente y camina con ellos. Aunque no lo reconocen de inmediato, Él no deja de acompañarlos, de escuchar sus inquietudes y de explicarles el sentido de las Escrituras.

   También nosotros, en nuestra vida cotidiana, podemos experimentar momentos de confusión o desánimo. Pero este pasaje nos recuerda una verdad fundamental: el Señor resucitado está vivo y camina a nuestro lado, incluso cuando no lo percibimos con claridad.

   El corazón de los discípulos comienza a arder cuando escuchan la Palabra. Y finalmente, sus ojos se abren al partir el pan. En estos dos momentos —la Palabra y la Eucaristía— la Iglesia reconoce los lugares privilegiados del encuentro con Cristo. Cada Domingo, al reunirnos como comunidad, el Señor nos habla y se nos da como alimento, renovando nuestra fe y nuestra esperanza.

   El Tercer Domingo de Pascua nos invita, por tanto, a dejarnos transformar por ese encuentro. No basta con escuchar: es necesario reconocer, acoger y responder. Los discípulos, una vez que descubren al Señor, se levantan y regresan sin demora para anunciarlo.

   Así también nosotros estamos llamados a ser testigos de la Resurrección. En medio de un mundo que muchas veces vive sin esperanza, nuestra misión es anunciar con la vida que Cristo vive, que el amor ha vencido y que una nueva vida es posible.                     Pidamos al Señor que encienda nuestro corazón con su Palabra, que abra nuestros ojos en la Eucaristía y que nos impulse a salir al encuentro de los demás con alegría pascual. Que, como los discípulos de Emaús, podamos decir con fe: “Quédate con nosotros, Señor”.
